THE BORGES PEN - An hommage to the gauchos and literature

My customer Harrison Monarth honors the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges, whose stories are shaped by the gauchos, the legendary cowboys and land lords of Argentina. Inspired by this world of rough country work, pride and the pampas, he wanted a LONGCAP fountain pen made from original gaucho knives - worn, used and marked by life.

For months, Harrison scoured auctions and carefully selected knives - each with its own story. With the help of the Bamberg studio Nonne 11, we melted down the knives and began the transformation;

For the shaft, I chose solid 935 silver, a classically noble material that emphasizes the timelessness of the design. The grip retains the archaic surface of sand casting - a deliberate reference to the rough, untamed world of the gauchos. Finally, the cap was entrusted to the renowned Hamburg hand engraver Florian Güllert. He transferred the historical engravings of the gauchos onto the metal with extraordinary precision, as if he were telling a story in silver.

THE BORGES PEN is more than just a writing instrument. It is an artistic relic of a bygone era, a bridge between literature, craftsmanship and history. A unique piece that not only writes, but speaks - with every line, every detail, every touch.

TEIL I

Gemeinsam mit den Schmuckkünstlern Alvaro-Luca Ellwart und Nora Kowats vom Studio Nonne 11 in Bamberg zerlegten wir die Messer vorsichtig, zerkleinerten und schmolzen sie ein. Durch das klassische Sandgussverfahren entstand ein Rohling, aus dem ich die Kappe und das Griffstück des Füllfederhalters fertigte.

TEIL II

Nachdem gemeinsam mit Studio Nonne 11 das Rohmaterial für die Herstellung des Füllfederhalters entstanden ist geht es in Teil II um die Arbeit in meiner Atelier-Werkstatt und die konkrete Herstellung des BORGES PENs. Ein kleiner Blick auf Florian Güllerts Gravurkunst ist ebenfalls dabei.
