Time as an investment
HANDMADE WOODEN FOUNTAIN PEN
Wood is one of the most complex materials to process in the manufacture of writing instruments. Due to the extremely thin walls, it requires a great deal of sensitivity and manual work - Each piece of this characteristic natural material is unique and “wants” to be treated individually.
Time is the crucial factor here.
Before one of the precious woods becomes a fountain pen Before it can be processed, it goes through a decades-long drying process. After the tree is felled, wood must be stored in the fresh air for one year, protected from rain for every centimeter of thickness. F Frank Pressentin has set up a specially covered outdoor storage facility for this storage process. The valuable planks and beams are stored here for 5 - 10 years before they are taken to the warm studio workshop. There they are processed into smaller beams and stored again for 2 - 5 years.

Writing instruments made from fine woods
MASTERPIECES WITH CHARACTER
In the studio the Storage of the wooden blocks according to the old tradition of violin makers , which stores the oldest wood at the highest point under the ceiling, because the air here is the warmest and therefore driest. Year after year, the valuable wood moves further up the shelf.
This lengthy drying process is the only natural way to minimize the “working” or cracking of the wood Frank Pressentin rejects artificial drying or even chemical stabilization of the wood. The naturalness and unique feel of the wood material must be preserved.
If you count all the steps from felling the tree to the finished wooden filler, you quickly arrive at over 400.
This tedious work process is rewarded with absolutely unique and valuable one-of-a-kind pieces Each of these pens tells a very special story and reflects the attitude of ELBWOOD: full of character, straightforward, uncompromising.

LIMITED COLLECTIBLES
Unlike the classic ELBWOOD range, Frank Pressentin only produces wooden fountain pens in limited quantities. The edition varies from case to case. Single pieces, five pieces or even twenty pieces – the availability of the material and the time needed for production determine the quantity.
These unique pieces are often shown as exhibits in galleries or museums, but their final destination should not be in a display case. An ELBWOOD piece was created to write with and only through the combination of functionality and design does it fulfill its purpose.
That's why these special exhibits can also be found in the ELBWOOD online shop, waiting for a new owner. It does require a bit of luck and the right timing to get hold of one of these pieces, but whoever manages to do so will definitely own something unique.
