<tc>BIENNIAL 2022 FOR APPLIED ART IN THE MUSEUM FOR HAMBURG HISTORY</tc>

<tc>INSPIRATION HISTORY: MERCHANT'S SHOP FROM THE 16TH CENTURY</tc>

Hamburg merchants are said to not show their wealth to the outside world with ostentatious pomp. Honesty, transparency and Hanseatic understatement are considered virtues and ideals.

The appreciation of material, craftsmanship and tradition. Solidity paired with the need for something beautiful. Solid gold and silver as a functional investment. Luxury that is not excessive and fulfills a purpose.

These points inspired me to create a fountain pen that, due to its materiality and reserved shape, combines many of these historical approaches.

Mokume Gane Füllfederhalter, Einzelanfertigung mit 18 Karat Goldfeder, ELBWOOD - The Hanseatic Penmaker

<tc>APPLIED ART IN THE MUSEUM FOR ARTS & INDUSTRY, HAMBURG</tc>

<tc>FOUNTAIN PEN MADE OF MOKUME GANE, FINE SILVER & SHIBUISHI</tc>

I made this special piece for the opening of the MK&G Fair 2021, one of the most prestigious fairs for contemporary crafts in Europe.

Mokume Gane is a 300-year-old Japanese forging technique that combines different precious metals into one surface. Literally Mokume Gane means "wood structure in metal", because the pattern of the surface structure resembles a fine wood grain.

The fine ELBWOOD fountain pens made of Mokume Gane are a real rarity, because Frank Pressentin is the only fountain pen manufacturer in the world who makes writing instruments from solid Mokume Gane in special alloys such as Shibuishi or Shakudo. Thanks to an exclusive collaboration with the only existing manufacturer (Kurzwerk) able to supply this delicate material for the exacting demands of fountain pen manufacturing, the patterned metal pens are unique. These unique pieces have their price: starting at 8,350 euros.

Art lovers and property investors appreciate the value.
